Guysfield Sees A Flurry Of Activity As Residents Prepare To Celebrate Easter
When you’re as creative as the team at Guysfield, the arrival of Easter offers countless opportunities to get crafting, baking and decorating.
Preparations began at the beginning of the month – April 1st, to be exact – as the Wellbeing team and residents started making decorations to display around the home.
Getting Creative with Easter Wreaths and Bonnets
Guysfield had won the Caring Homes Christmas Wreath competition back in December with a creation inspired by their residents’ love of the natural landscape around the home. Easter was the perfect time to get the wreath-making kit out again!
The Wellbeing team made a selection of Easter wreaths which visitors to Guysfield Residential Care Home in Letchworth, were able to take away in exchange for a donation. Resident Barry’s wife Linda purchased a wreath, then donated it to her local NOAH charity shop to support their efforts in helping the homeless. Resident Ann’s husband, Bob, bought a wreath which he gifted to his daughter in law who proudly displayed it on her front door – and in fact, the team received several pictures of Guysfield wreaths on front doors. The enterprise raised £230 and brought pleasure to many people as they decorated their homes for Easter.
Meanwhile, the art club was busy colouring and painting, and Easter bonnet crafting was another popular activity. Resident Ted especially enjoyed this and made four bonnets for himself and his wife Kathleen.
Chocolate a Popular Ingredient at Easter
With chocolate crucial to every Easter celebration, the team set up a chocolate nest making table with a stash of mini chocolate eggs for decoration. Resident Vivian, assisted by her son Duncan, showed herself to be a real Mary Berry!
Everyone had great fun decorating chick-shaped biscuits, then it was all hands on deck creating an entry for the Caring Homes Easter Egg competition, with Ted and Vivian leading the way. Once again, the wildlife and nature surrounding the home were the inspiration behind the design, which featured an intricate latticework of tiny flowers and edible gold leaf decoration.
In between crafting and cooking, residents took part in Easter related quizzes and enjoyed TV programmes and films with an Easter theme – all part of building an appetite for Good Friday, when unlimited hot cross buns were available from breakfast time onwards. Everybody left space for a delicious Good Friday lunch then on Easter Sunday, traditional roast lamb was served with all the trimmings – and of course, chocolate trifle for dessert! Easter Monday was a more relaxed affair with a buffet style lunch, and families and friends came to visit throughout the day.
A very happy time was had by all and the combination of arts, crafts, delicious food and a steady stream of visitors brought the whole home together to celebrate an Easter full of creativity and joy.
