Caring Homes Easter Egg Competition Inspires Creativity, Collaboration and Chocolate Galore!
We love a reason to spark some healthy competition at Caring Homes and Easter is a great time to unleash the creativity of our teams and residents.
A Chance for Residents and Teams to Create Something Fabulous
Chocolate is popular all year round at Caring Homes so we launched an Easter Egg Competition where teams had full artistic freedom to create an extraordinary egg. Each home received an Easter egg mould that could be used to create a base for something fabulous, then the rest was open to interpretation.
Entries rolled in to the judging panel who were looking for creativity and design as well as technical skills. Inspiration came from lots of different places, with the natural world playing a big part in the designs and a kaleidoscope of colours featuring. Photos showed residents getting stuck in - rolling, filling chocolate moulds, adding decorations - as Easter egg production lines sprang up in lounges and bistros across the group.
A Mini Dino-World Created by Runner Up, Horsell Lodge
The judges named Horsell Lodge Care Home in Woking a close second as they scored high marks for imagination and creativity with their dinosaur themed egg, which came with a character - ‘’Jack the Dinosaur’- and a story. Helped by residents, the team created a home for ‘Jack’ from recycled and repurposed materials. Despite keeping him busy with gardening and security duties, Jack was lonely so he was signed up to find a mate on carbondating.com. The successful union resulted in two baby dinosaurs bursting out of a golden chocolate egg to join the Horsell Lodge family!
Decadent Easter Egg Duo Wins Top Prize for The Orchard
The Orchard Nursing Home in St Albans was declared the competition winner with an Easter egg duo. The two eggs were designed to appeal to all tastes; firstly, a Dubai Chocolate Easter egg inspired by Dubai chocolate - an indulgent layered treat, starting with a base of rich milk chocolate, then a layer of stir-fried shredded dough mixed with pistachio cream, followed by another smooth layer of milk chocolate.
The second egg was a White Chocolate & Dried Raspberry Easter egg – an egg with a fruity twist, where creamy white chocolate was melted and blended with dried raspberries, creating multiple layers of sweet and tangy flavour.
Judges Impressed by High Standards Overall
The judges said, “We felt that The Orchard’s entry ticked every box. It was beautifully presented, the Easter eggs were crafted with meticulous attention to detail, and the process was designed to involve residents and the whole team. The presentation board was a lovely touch and featured some very cute, edible, bunnies. The standard of all the competition entries was high and it was great to see how much effort everyone had put into creating some very special Easter eggs”.
With a prize on the way to the winning team and thank-you goodies arriving for all those who participated, the competition was a success, bringing our teams and residents together for a fun project - a great way to celebrate Easter, especially when the results are edible!
