Caring Homes wins LaingBuisson Award for Personalisation

17th November 2017
Caring Homes is delighted to have won the Personalisation Award at the LaingBuisson Awards this week. This award recognises excellence in personalisation of care, demonstrating choice and control for all adults and older people whatever their needs or care setting. In their 12th year, the LaingBuisson Awards have become the Oscars of healthcare and social care, celebrating success across the sector. This year the event was their biggest ever with finalists chosen by judges from over 350 nominations. Caring Homes were up against stiff competition from Barchester, Brighterkind, CareTech, John Taylor Hospice and Making Space. Some of what the judges learnt and valued in our entry is below; “We believe personalisation starts with moving into the care home – both for the resident and for their relatives. We have a ‘Journey into Home’ procedure to ensure every experience is as unique as it can be. Personalisation is about making people feel valued, respected and cared for. We listen to our residents and relatives, realising it is the small things which count in every part of our lives.“Personalisation can be very simple –a person may want to continue to make their own food or to dress themselves. There are numerous examples throughout our homes, such as personalised menus/favourite drinks/personal items in rooms to regular clubs focusing on personal interests.“Specific recent personalisation includes a resident who was a former ballet teacher who has been encouraged dance in the hallways with her daughter and an excursion for another with a lifelong passion for trainspotting to welcome The Flying Scotsman.”The award was presented by Stephen Dorrell, Chairman of LaingBuisson and Gyles Brandreth, in London at a ceremony attended by over 890 people.Senior PR Communications Manager Serena Lawley-Rayner and PR Communications Manager Sue Varley are pictured receiving the award on behalf of Caring Homes.
