Abbeycrest Care Home supports National Trust’s scarecrow trail

16th November 2022

Abbeycrest Care Home residents have used their creative side, by producing two scarecrows for the National Trust’s (Cliveden) scarecrow trail that took place last month (22-30 October).

The home got involved in the project as a way of engaging the residents in the change of seasons and delights of Autumn through arts and crafts.

George King, Customer Relationship Advisor at Abbeycrest said: “Alice Peacock, Cliveden House Senior Programming Officer from the National Trust set out a brief for the residents, centered around an Autumnal theme. The residents who designed and built the two scarecrows had a positive and engaging debate about what we wanted to produce. It was great to see everyone collaborating and getting the creative juices flowing. Ideas ranged from Farmers to Witches, however we all decided on ‘Roger the Resident’ and ‘Sarah the Carer’ as the best idea.

It was a thoroughly fabulous effort from all involved; the feedback from the general public is positive and we hope to do something similar next year. A huge thanks to yourself and your residents for creating two such wonderful scarecrows!"

The arts and crafts program at Abbeycrest is popular among residents. It's a great way for them to stay busy and express their creativity. A number of residents also find getting involved with this a new and soothing way to spend time.
