Living well with Dementia

Keeping things personal

At Oak Manor Nursing Home

The comfortable surroundings at Oak Manor Nursing Home are matched by the standard of care our team brings residents. We love learning as much as we can about the people we care for, so your loved one’s time is tailored to their individual needs, interests and preferences. This can be as small as knowing when they like to wake up, to how they like their tea, and everything in between.

We give as much independence as possible, letting individuals choose how to run the home and if they prefer dinner in front of the TV, or even dusting their own room, we’ll make it happen. Just as putting their own stamp on their bedroom, we’ll help them to personalise it with the things they love.

Keep doing what you love

At Oak Manor Nursing Home, there’s something to tickle everyone’s fancy – from arts and crafts to relaxation, our packed schedule of events and activities, to picnics in the garden. And if residents prefer to spend one-on-one time with a member of the team, they can read the paper, pop to the shops or have a pint in the local pub. We have strong connections with the Dereham community, many of our residents invite them to join in our activities or even run their own here.

Meet the Manager

Nicola Rands

As the Home Manager of Oak Manor, I lead a professional team in providing the highest standards of care for up to 61 residents with varying needs.

I have a qualified nursing background with over 12 years’ experience and started my nursing career as a Stroke Nurse at Ipswich Hospital. Over 5 years ago I moved into the care sector and became manager of a home providing nursing, residential and dementia care.

Between my time as a nurse and becoming a care home manager I got the opportunity to work in research looking at both the NHS and private sector, which has given me a great insight into both worlds. One of my greatest achievements was gaining my Master’s Degree in Healthcare Management from Anglian Ruskin University, not only has this helped in my development it has also given me knowledge that I can apply in my day-to-day working life.

I enjoy all aspects of managing a care home and work continually to maintain all aspects of care to the highest standards, while supporting my staff to develop and succeed in their roles. To me there is nothing better than seeing my residents with smiles on their faces and laughter throughout the home – I want it to feel like a ‘Home-from-Home’ atmosphere.
