Nursing Case Study - Jennifer's Story
The loss of a loved one is always a difficult time. If one has just moved into a new home and loses a much loved partner the need for a caring and supportive environment becomes even more important.
Jennifer first moved to Rectory House with her husband when she was confined to bed and he was terminally ill. Her husband died not long afterwards leaving Jennifer very upset and confused. The dedicated nursing team at Rectory House supported Jennifer through her grieving and gradually worked with her to take the next steps in her life. Despite her grief she was quite determined to make progress and to carry out her late husband’s wish – to have his ashes scattered at his birthplace in North Wales.
The nursing team at Rectory House worked closely with Jennifer to create a care plan that included clear goals she could achieve. Over a period of months she worked hard to regain her mobility and participate in daily life at the home. Jennifer would go for walks in the garden accompanied by staff and it was here that she rediscovered her passion for gardening. Soon, she was planting new flowers by the fountain at the front of Rectory House. She also became more interested in her personal appearance, preparing matching outfits each day and looking forward to weekly visits to the hairdresser.
Some 14 months after her husband’s death, Jennifer was strong enough to travel with family and a member of staff to his birthplace and fulfil his wish. But this is not the end of Jennifer’s story. She continues to thrive at Rectory House. Her life has real meaning and purpose and she is a much loved member of the home family.
Jennifer’s story is just one example of the dedicated care and support the team at Rectory House provides every day. If you would like to learn more about the variety of care provision available at Rectory House, please call our Home Manager on 01903 750026.
