'Young At Heart' Club Adds A Touch Of Nostalgia And Emotional Wellbeing

26th January 2024

Social enrichment and interaction, especially in the elderly can be hugely beneficial for their emotional wellbeing. Initiatives like the "Young at Heart" club at The Orchard Nursing Home can counteract any social isolation and improve the quality of life for residents. These programmes create a sense of community that goes beyond the physical care provided, fostering a supportive and engaging environment.

Our Local Volunteer Brian

The “Young at Heart” club is run by Brian, a well-respected local volunteer with a passion for history and nostalgia.

Brian's commitment to researching residents’ interests and preferences, and bringing in vintage books, toys, and games, is a testament to his understanding of the importance of connecting with their past and allowing our residents to share special memories. His weekly visits are very popular, and we are always looking forward to seeing Brian.

His thoughtful approach not only fosters a sense of nostalgia but also provides a platform for residents to share their stories and experiences. In a caregiving environment, where physical care is often the primary focus, The “Young at Heart” club brings an opportunity to build relationships in a natural, social environment.

Narcis, the Home Manager says, “Brian’s passion, dedication, and thoughtful approach are truly inspiring. They contribute to making the Orchard nursing home a place where residents can feel connected, valued, and cared for within a positive happy community”.
