Whittington House were lake a fish out of water!

14th August 2018
Residents, families and staff from Whittington House in Cheltenham recently visited Croft Farm Water Park in Bredons Hardwick. The residents excitedly sang songs as they boarded the minibus for this trip.On arrival we were met by more relatives, who joined us as we made our way to the Club House for lunch. The staff there were wonderful and made sure we had tables overlooking the lake. The food was excellent, which everyone enjoyed and the residents were very pleased to choose their favourite ice cream for pudding. After lunch we all had a walk around looking at the wildlife and taking in the wonderful views. The residents weren’t feeling brave enough to take to the water in pedal boats, deciding instead it would be safer and more enjoyable to watch the holiday makers. A few staff did brave the water and went for a paddle when a flock of swans had other ideas making them retreat to the safety of the bank. The residents watching from the picnic table were in fits of laughter! We ended the day having a final hot beverage getting our breath back after such a wonderful day out.Being by the water brought back happy memories of childhood and provide them with a new lease of life. Outings such as this, which are of interest to residents gives them a sense of freedom and fun that promotes a sense of well-being. They were encouraged to talk about their memories and this proved to be a powerful stimulant, providing a much-needed change of scene along with a breath of fresh air.A week later and both the residents and their relatives are still talking about their day out and were very grateful to have been invited. “It was a wonderful experience”, “I couldn’t have had a nicer day”, “Bring on the next trip!”Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham, Gloucestershire is a modern, purpose-built home and provides residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 66 people. If you would like to find out more about life at Whittington House, or would like to speak to a member of our team, please contact us on 0808 223 5396 or [email protected].
