Strathview celebrate National Care Home Open Day

Strathview in Auchtermuchty, celebrated National Care Home Open Day this month, and it was a great success despite the rather wet weather which meant we had to bring the Garden Party indoors!

We had an amazing turn out, to the point that we were even running out of room in our dining room where we were holding the entertainment.

The local primary school,  Auchtermuchty Primary School P7’s, played ukelele’s and sung us a few songs which the residents thoroughly enjoyed singing along with. The children also brought with them portraits of the Queen for a competition, the winners were picked by residents and staff, and presented the winners with book tokens at school the following week. These are a small selection of drawings that now adorn our dining room walls.

We also welcomed local legend and singing sensation, his jokes weren’t bad either, Joe Stirling. He not only sung his heart out but had the crowd laughing at his witty jokes, and really got the crowds going with his great variety of songs. Joe certainly got the audience warmed up for our own talented singers, made up of Residents and Staff, who had been practicing over the weeks prior to the Open Day.

Ticket sales had been going well throughout the weeks leading up to the Open Day, we even ran out of tickets at one point. The crisis was averted and we had a manic hour or so selling fast at the start of our afternoon. We were overwhelmed with the donations of prizes from suppliers – Julie Snowdon (our hairdresser), Lynda Pyman (foot care), J&J Corson (Fish Merchant), Boots (Chemist), Co-op Auchtermuchty and our many many of our staff and visitors. We are very proud to say we made a huge £171 purely on raffle ticket sales so thank you ever so much to the crowds who were buying tickets on Friday afternoon.

Refreshments were provided by Strathview’s Chef and Care Team so thank you to Glenda, Debbie, Patricia, Linda, Audrey, Karen, Lorraine, Linda, Irene, Anne, Jay, Colleen, Marna, Donna and Karen (some of whom came in on their day off).  A thank you also needs to go to India, Elizabeth and Shonagh for their decorating abilities the day before.

The food was so good there was no room for cake until later on so the judging of the staff bake off competition was delayed until the Residents tea time.

The ‘Bake-Off’ style competition for staff was later judged by a couple of our cake loving residents – It was a great display with the winning prize being awarded to Margaret the Home Manager for her chocolate/orange masterpiece.

Thank you to all our residents, their relatives, local shops, staff and friends as well as Auchtermuchty Primary School P7’s that have made this such a successful occasion!
