Sanford House team take part in carnival parade

20th July 2017
Sanford House care home in East Dereham has achieved a ‘first’ for a care home in the area by taking part in the community carnival parade which took place on Sunday. The team, along with residents and relatives, worked hard to decorate their bus on a Royal Family theme with bunting, balloons and a crown on the top. The team all wore royal family masks and had been practising their royal wave in preparation for the event.Sanford House, run by Caring Homes, is a modern purpose-built care home in Dereham, providing nursing care and specialist dementia care for up to 40 elderly people.Care home manager Joan Auton, who wore a Queen Elizabeth mask, said; “It was a fantastic event and a real achievement for our team to get so many of our residents involved and really enjoying themselves.“You can’t get more involved in the community than something like this and we are really proud to be the only care home that has taken part so far – we already have our thinking caps on for something bigger and better for next year.”The Sanford House minibus took part in the parade – made up of almost 40 floats – with seven residents and carers on board and an additional 15 residents who were pushed in their wheelchairs by carers and relatives to accompany the bus.Sanford House resident Eileen was chosen by the carnival organisers to help the Mayor judge the best float competition.“It was a brilliant community event and we were proud to be a part of it. It was fantastic that it all came together really well and everyone had a good time – then it was back to Sanford House for Sunday roast,” added Joan.Sanford House provides specialist residential and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 40 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Sanford House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5533 or [email protected].
