Caring, Well-led, Responsive Care Home rated Good by CQC

Home Manager Paula and her team at Blenheim Court Care Home, in Liss, Hampshire are delighted to have recently received a ‘Good’ rating from care regulators, The Care Quality Commission (CQC), following a planned inspection in March.

Acquired in August 2018 by Caring Homes, Blenheim Court, continues to offer a full range of nursing, dementia and residential care for up to 60 elderly residents, has been described as the most marvelous place.

Colleagues are delighted that during their visit, Inspectors observed that residents live in a caring, well-led, responsive and effective environment, cared for by sufficient numbers of well-trained staff who are kind and considerate in their approach to care and support and who know residents well. Inspectors commented that, “People told us they were happy with the service they receive, adding that they felt safe and the staff were kind, caring and respectful,” and continued, “No one had any complaints and felt the management team were open, approachable and supportive.”

Feedback the CQC received about the management team demonstrated they listened and took any feedback as an opportunity to make improvements for people.

As part of the rigerous inspection process Inspectors spoke to seven people, four visitors, 11 members of staff, the registered manager and regional manager. They looked at the care records for five people and the management of medicines in the home, also reviewing recruitment records, sampled supervisions and training records. They also looked at records relating to the quality and management of the service. Everyone inspectors spoke with told them they felt safe living at Blenheim Court.

Over the moon with the feedback, Paula Southgate, Home Manager, said, “At Caring Homes we want to ensure that our home is just that – a caring home. We are all really pleased that the CQC inspectors have recognised the continuing and ongoing improvements at Blenheim Court and we are delighted with our ‘Good’ rating.  This is down to the fantastic team here and great support from my senior managers at Caring Homes.

People and their relatives told inspectors they felt staff were caring. Comments included; “They’re very attentive,” and “The girls (staff) enjoy a bit of banter, mostly they’re fun. (Staff member) is a lovely lady, she has real compassion”, “This place by any standards is excellent and is better than any other place I have known, and I have been to a few, the carers are excellent”. A relative shared with inspectors, “I just want to say this is the most marvelous place, they are so kind, my (relative) can be difficult, I can’t fault them.”

Paula continued, “At Blenheim Court we are committed to providing high quality care for people, that is based around their needs and wishes, striving to improve in all areas for both our residents and colleagues. Our challenge is to ensure that we can consistently deliver and evidence that we are achieving the highest standards. The team at Blenheim Court are committed to every aspect of the care we provide being at a consistently high level and are looking at ways to use all feedback to drive further improvements.” In their report the CQC stated that, “People’s outcomes were consistently good, and people’s feedback confirmed this.”
