Care Home Goes Back To The Future With 40s Style Makeover

Staff and residents at Guysfield Care Home in Letchworth have gone back in time with a retro makeover. Two communal rooms have been decorated in the style of the 40s and 50s and provide a nostalgic trip down memory lane for those who live in the home.

Guysfield is a Victorian home benefiting from expansive communal areas. To create more intimate and comfortable spaces, staff and residents undertook the makeover project. Residents now enjoy a three-piece suite of vintage lounge furniture in the activities room as well as a six chair dining area which is now used for special occasions and family meals. Visits from family and friends are now cosy encounters beside the new fireplace.

Caroline, Guysfield’s Activities Coordinator, scoured flea markets and vintage fairs to find the perfect furniture pieces, antiques and accessories needed to outfit the dining room and lounge with historic accuracy and charm.

Guysfield Care Home provides residential and dementia care for up to 51 people and is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group.  Mother and son team Helena and Paul Jeffery founded Caring Homes in 1994 and the Group has grown to become a leading independent care provider in the UK.

Mary Woods, Home Manager at Guysfield said;

“Everyone at Guysfield is delighted with the redecoration we have done in the lounge and special dining area.

“The home looks amazing decked out in vintage furniture, and it has been a delight to see residents taking advantage of the space to share stories and memories.”

Emma Charlton, Marketing Director said;

“Ensuring that residents are involved in home life through a range of interesting, engaging and innovative activities is really what we are all about.

“Redecorating the home to evoke the past is just one example of how our homes ensure that the passions and hobbies of our residents are encouraged.”
