Bowled over at Guysfield

Residents at Guysfield care home in Letchworth, were bowled over recently when they enjoyed an outdoor Skittles competition in our garden.

As it was such a nice day, our residents and members of our team decided to get out into the fresh air, enjoy the glorious weather and come together in a fun group activity.

We set up the skittles and our residents competed against each other to knock down as many as they could in one go, to get a chance to win a medal. There was a real sense of competition in the air but lots of laughter and chatter.

Some of our residents had played Skittles when they were younger so it brought back memories as well. The winners were then presented with the medals at the end of the day in a small ceremony.

The event proved such a success that regular matches are now planned for the summer months ahead.

Pawel Michalewicz, Home Manager said:

“Our residents absolutely loved the skittles match. They had so much fun. It was great for gentle exercise as well and they loved talking about who was the best, their scores and how they would improve next time.

“It proved so popular, we will be definitely doing this activity again.”

At Guysfield Care Home we provide residential and dementia care for up to 49 elderly people. We know that our residents joining in and participating in activities together, creates a much more person centred event which benefits in wellbeing and gives a positive outcome.
