Coxhill Manor at The Lightbox ‘Art in Mind’ workshop

Coxhill Manor in Chobham, has recently joined the ‘Art in Mind’ programme at The Lightbox gallery and museum in Woking, which is a series of monthly creative workshops led by an artist.   The emphasis is on simple art activities, inspired by works from the John Ingram Collection of Modern and Contemporary British Art, using different mediums such as watercolours, printing and clay.

Residents John and Hazel attended the latest workshop in February, where the focus was on an Elizabeth Frink print ‘The Cormarant’.

We enjoyed lots of discussions about the artwork and the artist over coffee and biscuits before setting to work creating our own version with our own interpretation of ‘The Cormarant’. The media we used was oil pastels.

Everyone, including staff and carers, take part in the activity.  There was lots of mutual encouragement, and continued discussions about the artist Elizabeth Frink even led us to google her to learn more about her life and works.

An important element of the art workshops is the opportunity for social interaction and art discussions with people who share a common interest in art.  The workshops are small and intimate which allows for familiarity and building relationships.

Each participant’s artwork is then shared and discussed as the two hour session comes to an end.  It’s such a positive experience which certainly leaves you wanting more.  We are very much looking forward to our next session on March 8th.

All we need to do now is to create our own gallery here at Coxhill Manor to display our works… and indeed showcase the art our residents create here at Coxhill!

At Coxhill Manor care home in Woking we provide residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 58 residents.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
