It's all roses for residents at Sanford house

2nd September 2016
Residents from Sanford House in Dereham, enjoyed the atmosphere of an English country garden today when they visited Peter Beales Rose and Garden Centre.Since the first roses were planted in 1983 the gardens have always been an integral part of the nursery. They specialise in the preservation of old fashioned roses, the gardens provide a chance to see unique, historic, rare and contemporary roses growing with other plants. There is also the ‘St Albans Walkway’ which is an ironwork structure that comprises of four arched walkways that join together at the center of a large gazebo. The wildlife area at the garden center is set up to attract insects and mammals. This wildlife area was really interesting and provided information about the importance of wildlife and the benefits they bring to all gardens. It really opened our eyes as to how even the smallest of creatures can help our gardens at Sanford House. After a gentle stroll around the center, taking in the sights and smells of the beautiful flowers, they rounded off the afternoon with refreshments in their tea rooms.Outings for the residents, especially those with dementia, are very beneficial to body and mind. New scenery and also the exercise, both help the residents keep an active social life which is key to helping someone with dementia feel happy and motivated.Everyone needs a sense of purpose and to enjoy themselves during the day. Encouraging someone with dementia to do something creative, some gentle exercise, or take part in an activity helps them to realise their potential, which improves their self-esteem and reduces loneliness.[gallery link="file" size="medium" ids="14919,14920,14921"]Sanford House provides specialist residential and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 40 elderly people. If you would like to find out more about life at Sanford House and the care we offer, or to request a meeting with our Home Manager, please contact us on 0808 223 5533 or [email protected].
