A crafty Christmas day out

The residents from Galsworthy House care home with nursing enjoyed their last trip to Holly Lodge so much we decided to go again.

Holly Lodge is a sensory session where the sights, smells and sounds of Christmas are explored. Including decorating the tree, baking, singing carols and making crafts.

This time residents were asked to hang snow flakes that had been made from felt and cardboard reindeer, these were things that were typically available and used in Victorian times.

We were then shown how to make gingerbread men, the sieve we used was made out of wood and horse hair which stirred a few comments in comparison to the metal ones we now use! Everyone stirred the mixture and cut either a tree or angel which was then placed on a baking tray and put in the oven to bake.

Everyone relaxed with a lovely cup of tea and a gingerbread man, which we liked to think were the ones we had been making, to reignite our energy.

The perfect day ended by singing the carols, "Silent Night"and "Jingle Bells", we also had a go on the hand bells. Everyone had a really interesting and enjoyable afternoon.
