Where care and luxury meet

The Grade II* listed mansion house was built in 1786 for the Hon. Charlotte Boyle Walsingham. The decorative interior work was carried out by her daughter, who was skilled in ‘verre eglomise’, and still in existence are the gilded engraved gold leaf panels in the first floor library. During the late 17th and 18th centuries the home played host to famous politicians and writers.

Each of the bedrooms in our home is individually, beautifully decorated and furnished, complete with an en-suite bathroom. Elegant communal spaces include luxurious lounges and libraries plus; a cinema, bistro and hair salon.

Outside are stunning riverside gardens, accessible pathways and seating areas. There are lovely views across the Thames to Hampton Court Palace.

Fine food and dining

Our head chef and hospitality team work with residents to deliver outstanding choice and quality, resulting in delightful culinary dishes that focus on each person’s health and nutritional needs. There’s always plenty of choice at each meal, and our bistro bar is stocked with tea, coffee, homemade cake and biscuits to be enjoyed with other residents and visitors throughout the day. We also hold the Hospitality Assured accreditation – a mark synonymous with hospitality in the hotel industry.

A lifestyle you’ll love

The team at Home of Compassion is passionate about enabling residents to continue with the routines and interests they enjoy, while discovering new hobbies and making new friends. When your loved one joins us, we’ll get to know them well, learning about their life and the things they’d like to achieve.

Dependent on an individual resident’s needs there are a number of enhancements on offer which can add to the quality of life, especially in a care home setting. Entertainment, events and activities are all regularly available for any resident wishing to take part. Our Health and Wellbeing team run a variety of activities seven days a week, ranging from music sessions to talks, bridge club to reading groups, yoga classes to creative pursuits. They want to ensure residents can be as active or sociable as they like, and are able to find like-minded people to share time with.

At Home of Compassion we play a key part in our local community. The local prep school meets here regularly, and a young people’s theatre group often rehearses in the home. We also enjoy regular talks from local groups and experts such as the Tate Modern.

Our residents are as free to get as involved in social events as they wish to. If they prefer to read the paper, do a jigsaw or stay in their bedroom, we will respect their choices and support them however we can.

Care from an award-winning team

We understand that dementia is different for everyone, so the care our residents receive is too. We train every member of our team so residents, families and their carers, can be surrounded by personalised support with our unique ‘Living In My World’ Training. We are proud to be the only care home group in the UK to have our own training which is accredited by City and Guilds. It highlights the importance of meaningful activities and a stimulating environment for people living with dementia, as well as addressing clinical aspects of care.

Our ‘Food in My World’ training, also accredited by City and Guilds provides our hospitality team and chefs with the skills and knowledge to stimulate senses and increase creativity in the cooking and presentation of food. This can provide a much improved dining experience for residents living with dementia and or dysphagia.

Manager's Profile

As Home of Compassion’s Manager, I have a strong conviction that each resident should have the opportunity to live their life as they wish to, in this very comfortable and prestigious setting. The caring and committed team working with me shares my values and beliefs, to make sure that our care helps residents to keep their dignity and choices in life. Our approach enables them to keep the best possible degree of independence which keeps them safe and happy.

I am a registered nurse, having trained first in Glasgow followed by an orthopaedic nursing qualification in Bath. During my career I have worked abroad in Cyprus, run a nursery school, managed a small private hospital and worked as a community nurse in the local area. The nine years I spent as a community nurse included palliative care and support to both patients and their families.

In 2005 I gained a Registered Managers Award and have been working with the Caring Homes Group since 2011. I feel very fortunate to be doing a job which gives me such fulfilment every day. Not only am I able to inspire and provide high quality care and service, it is one of my great pleasures to meet people, listen to their stories and hear tales of their lives.
