Key Information

We make sure each resident experiences care that's as unique as they are. Which is why we offer a range of care types and duration for individuals or couples.

You'll be in good company this autumn

Book a respite stay for peace of mind

Our short respite stays can provide a crucial break for carers to do daily chores, go on holiday or simply have some well-earned time off whilst residents often enjoy the chance to meet new people and try out new activities.

If your loved one has spent time in hospital as a result of a fall, an operation or a major illness, convalescent care provides care and support to help them feel like themselves again.

Residents may be admitted to a care home from the community without needing to complete a 14-day self-isolation period, if they satisfy the requirements. Please ask for details.

Ruth Tells Her Story

Making the decision to move into a care home and finding the right one can be an especially difficult and emotional decision for a resident and their family. Ruth moved into Abbeycrest Nursing Home in Sonning Common last year and it turned out to be the best decision for her and her family.

She was living alone in Whitby since the passing of her husband Alan in 2007 and although two sisters lived nearby, a spell in hospital in 2020 forced her to consider the move South. Encouraged by her son John, coupled with a lot of research by John and his partner Marian, Ruth settled on Abbeycrest.

Keeping things personal

At Abbeycrest Nursing Home

The wonderful surroundings at Abbeycrest Nursing Home are matched by the standard of care our team brings residents. We love learning as much as we can about the people we care for, so your loved one’s time is tailored to their individual needs, interests and preferences. This can be as small as knowing when they like to wake up, to how they like their tea, and everything in between.

We give as much independence as possible, letting individuals choose how to run the home and if they prefer dinner in front of the TV, or even dusting their own room, we’ll make it happen. Just as putting their own stamp on their bedroom, we’ll help them to personalise it with the things they love.

Every need catered for

Mealtimes are an important part of daily life at Abbeycrest Nursing Home. We know eating well and the social experience of dining are key to health and wellbeing. Our chefs select a different menu each day, creating lots of home-cooked dishes with fresh ingredients to choose from. Using their in-depth knowledge of nutrition, they cater for any special diets and needs. Whether you're a three-meals-a-day person or prefer to eat little and often, our menus and snack options provide complete flexibility, view our sample menu below.

Keep doing what you love

At Abbeycrest Nursing Home, there’s something to tickle everyone’s fancy – from arts and crafts to the hair salon and our packed schedule of events and activities. If residents prefer to spend one-on-one time with a member of the team, they can read the paper, pop to the shops or have a pint in the local pub. We have strong connections with the Sonning Common community, many of our residents invite them to join in our activities or even run their own here. View our example activities below.

I love showing people around the home and arranging various visits for the residents. As the ‘face of the home’ my role is very important and knowing that I can help them through their care home journey makes me happy.

George King
