Winnie the Pooh Day at Dormy House

Every year Winnie the Pooh fans around the world celebrate Winnie the Pooh Day on the 18th January, the day that his creator, A. A. Milne, was born in 1882.

With this in mind some of the activities team at Dormy house decided to dress in character for the day and hold Winnie the Pooh themed activities for the residents to enjoy.

The morning started out like any other with the Residents enjoying an A. A. Milne word search. Just before lunch, Tigger and Eeyore made their appearance – much to the delight of everyone in the home.

Eeyore was played by Helen Payne, Hospitality & Guest Relations Lead, while Tigger was Elaine Ross – Dormy House’s dedicated Activities Coordinator.

In the afternoon Helen and Elaine held a Winnie the Pooh themed ‘OOMPH!’ class, giving residents the chance to participate in a Pooh-themed sing-along and dance.

“OOMPH!” classes are led by in-house instructors, who have undertaken training with the award-winning social enterprise “OOMPH!” (Our Organisation Makes People Happy!). “OOMPH!” helps care home team members create and deliver exercise programmes for elderly residents, to help improve their health and wellbeing.

Ken Coorjee, Home Manager at Dormy House, said: “Helen and Elaine are always coming up with crazy fun things to do for our Residents. The residents genuinely enjoy getting involved.”
