Congratulations to Emma at Whittington House Nursing Home

Congratulations to Emma Gore, Senior Care Assistant at Whittington House Nursing Home in Cheltenham who has just passed the Caring Homes City & Guilds accredited ‘Living in my World’ Bronze Certification. Emma is one of the key members of our the team who will be supporting the leadership of the Dementia Unit at our home.

As well as ongoing training in their particular field, every team member at Whittington House receives our unique ‘Living in My World’ dementia training. It highlights the importance of meaningful activities and a stimulating environment for people living with dementia, as well as addressing clinical aspects of care.

Caring Homes has been commended for its commitment to training in November 2016 and were honoured with the prestigious ‘Princess Royal Training’ Award.

Lyndsey Dixon, Home Manager commented

“The ‘Living in my World’ training means every member of the team understand how and when to change the way we speak to our residents and how we can use gestures to help support those living with dementia. Supporting our residents with everyday tasks is just as important to them as it can have a positive impact on their wellbeing and confidence.”

Whatever their needs, everyone at Whittington House is given appropriate care and stimulated to enjoy their life to the best of their abilities. Our residents living with dementia have every opportunity to continue with the daily activities that were such a formative part of their lives, and which make them feel fulfilled and happy.

Throughout Whittington House, memory aids promote maximum independence and confidence. Our dementia-friendly design features include strong lighting coupled with the use of colour and contrast for safety and perception, plus clear signage with icons to help residents find their way around the home.
