Walstead Place get their pinnies on for Parkinson’s UK

The staff and residents of Walstead Place were busy baking cakes and buffing cars this week in aid of the national charity Parkinson’s UK.

The events was held as part of the Caring Homes ‘Charitable Partnership’ initiative for 2013/14, whereby each of the 56 care homes across the group are working together to raise thousands of pounds for their two chosen charities, Parkinson’s UK and Diabetes UK.

Monday saw the staff getting stuck in washing vistors’ cars, before the main event on Thursday where participants put their best pinnies on for the ‘Great Walstead Place Bake Off.’ The Bake-Off was judged by Bonita and Sue Stockwell, with staff and relatives paying to enter their cake for judging. The coveted ‘Walstead Place Rolling Pin’ was won by the daughter of Dr Alan Couch and her delicious lemon curd Victoria sponge. The fabulous selection of cakes were then sold off, with the rest making for a wonderful afternoon tea.

In total, the Walstead Place events raised over £130, which will be added to the money raised across the group throughout the year and provide a significant contribution to the vital cause.

Located just a mile from Lindfield, Walstead Place provides residential and nursing care for up to 41 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
