1940s Tea Party at Walstead Place to celebrate Vera Lynn’s Birthday

Walstead Place will be celebrating Dame Vera Lynn’s birthday this year with a 1940s themed Tea Party at our home in Haywards Heath, Sussex.

On 20th March, Walstead Place will be setting the scene for our residents and guests and hosting a party for all to enjoy.

Many of our residents have very fond memories of Vera Lynn and this event will bring a sense of a bygone era to our home. She was one of the most popular entertainers in Britain during World War II and was often known as “the Forces’ Sweetheart” and has continued to enthrall people during her long career.

To make this event even more special and memorable, we will be opening our doors and welcoming The Victory Vs, who are a 1940s tribute singing duo who perform and sing ration book rhythms, to entertain us in true 1940s style. After their performance we will all enjoy a traditional afternoon tea prepared by our chefs.

Our residents and team are eagerly looking forward to inviting them into our home and to celebrate the great entertainer Vera Lynn who lives in Sussex. We’re anticipating such favourites as “We’ll Meet Again”, “A Nightingale Sang in Berkeley Square”, “The White Cliffs of Dover”, and “There’ll Always Be an England”.

Now we all we have to do is wait but until then, our activities team have lots of great events planned for our residents to enjoy.

Walstead Place Care Home in Haywards Heath is a magnificent 19th century country squire’s residence, sensitively converted to provide the highest standard of residential care for up to 44 elderly residents.
