Two top awards for Scoonie House

Team members from Caring Homes’ seven Scottish care homes gathered together at Marchglen Care Centre in Fishcross, this month for the company’s Scottish Recognition Awards.

Colleagues, residents and relatives were asked to nominate across nine categories: Nurse of the Year, Nurse Newcomer, Care & Support, Care Newcomer, Meaningful Activities, Nutrition/Eating Well., Management/Leadership, Specialist Adult Care and Support Services.

Two of these coveted awards went to colleagues at Scoonie House in Leven with Roddy Mackinnon winning the Nutrition and Eating Well Award and Home Manager Melanie MacDonald receiving the Management and Leadership Award.

Roddy, who is in charge of the catering team at Scoonie House, always makes the residents his first priority, speaking to them on a regular basis to make sure eveyone’s needs and preferences are met. “He is quiet and unassuming, going about his role as head chef. He is an inspiration to us all,” said one nominator.

Home Manager Melanie MacDonald has more than 20 years’ experience at Scoonie House and is passionate about ensuring the home is a success. “Melanie never has problems, only solutions. She is driven, passionate and dedicated – a pleasure to work with,” said a nominator.

Scotland Regional Manager for Caring Homes Jackie Morrison said; “These awards give us the opportunity to celebrate excellence in Scotland and the high calibre of the homes and colleagues we have working here. Everyone who was nominated deserve a special mention, as do all of those who have put in 10,15, or 20 years’ service with us.”

Benefitting from a central, yet tranquil, location in the heart of the seaside village of Leven, Scoonie House in Fife is a charming Victorian home sympathetically converted to provide residential care for up to 36 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
