‘Topping out’ for Oaken Holt’s new Dementia Home

The final roof tile was laid on the new specialist dementia home at Oaken Holt care home in Farmoor, Oxford, on Monday 2 November 2015 at 10am.

The new dementia home at Oaken Holt is set to open in Spring 2016 offering specialist dementia care support for up to 40 residents, with thoughtfully designed en-suite bedrooms, a bistro area, cinema, hair salon and dedicated activities room.

Julie Mason, Operations Manager at Caring Homes, said: “The new dementia wing is an exciting development for Oaken Holt, and I am so pleased to be placing the last roof tile on the building. Now work on the interior starts, ahead of opening the new unit in Spring 2016.”

Steve Garlick, Site Manager for Feltham Construction who are building the new wing added: “We are so pleased to be working with Caring Homes on this project. It is a very attractive building, and will be a real asset to Oaken Holt care home, that we are proud to be involved with.”

Oaken Holt currently offers a variety of residential and nursing care options, and specialises in palliative and cancer care, dedicated care for those with a hearing, speech or visual impairment, specialist care following a stroke as well as tailored care for older people with heart disease or Parkinson’s disease.

The home is a magnificent country estate, with 23 acres of beautiful parkland and gardens. The house, offering nursing care, retains a wealth of period features with the Coach House offering residential support. An onsite nursing village called Parklands offers 29 one and two bedroom apartments and bungalows for those requiring a little more personal independence.

Care colleagues at Oaken Holt recently received certificates in the bronze level of the ‘Living in My World’ specialist dementia training, developed in-house by Caring Homes to further enhance its dementia care ahead of the new wing being opened in 2016. Two of the care team also received certificates for passing the ‘train the trainer’ element of the course, allowing them to train the dementia course to others.
