Therapy Dogs Nationwide visit Mill House

On Monday the 18th July, Mill House in Chipping Campden hosted a visit from Therapy Dogs Nationwide volunteer and dog assessor, Anne Bishop and her four legged companion, a flat coat retriever female dog called Nettle.

The weather was hot and sunny which let us welcome our visitors in our garden and enjoy the beautiful weather. It was a lovely and exciting visit for our residents living at Mill House as most of them used to have dogs in their own homes and they commented on how much they miss them, so it was great for them to reconnect with Nettle.

Kath Barlow one of our resident (blue top) used to have two Labradors in the past and she eagerly looks forward to and enjoys every pet visit at Mill House. June (lady on the right handside) also was thrilled to meet Nettle as she is also a dog lover and loves to stroke them and talk to them.

Anne Bishop is a very busy volunteer around Gloucestershire but has promised to pop in once a month so residents can meet Nettle again and the residents are delighted that she will become a monthly fixture in our activites schedule.

At Mill House, we know the benefits that animals and pet therapy can bring to our residents with their physical health such as reducing blood pressure, improving cardiovascular health, releasing  endorphins which can have a calming effect, reducing levels of pain which can result in lower levels of medication needed and can produce a relaxing effect.

The benefits also apply to our residents mental well being as animals can provide comfort, increase spirits and decrease feelings of isolation and lonleliness, encourages verbal and non verbal communication

If you would like to find out more about life at Mill House, our news and events and our specialist residential, nursing and dementia care, please contact Kim

Due to the popularity of the visit, Mill House is currently looking for any volunteers with visiting dogs who would be willing to come and spend time with our residents. If you would like to register your dog to become a therapy dog please contact Therapy Dogs Nationwide and they will be able to advise and help you.
