St Wilfrids invite the Queen for tea

Residents and staff at St Wilfrids invited the Queen to visit the home for a garden party for her 90th birthday. Although the request was not granted, the local history society Lancaster past and present, got to hear of it and consequently, so did BBC Lancaster.

BBC Lancaster arrived to interview residents, family members and staff on Thursday 28th April and spoke about their invitation to the Queen and her 90th birthday. One resident, Doris, had been fortunate enough to meet the Queen in her younger years and was able to tell her story. Another resident, Cora, commented that the Queen should live at St Wilfrids as she “would have felt at home, because it is a homely place here.” Mrs McIntyre, one resident’s wife was also interviewed and was happy to discuss the Queen’s birthday and St Wilfrids.

The atmosphere was informal and relaxed and everyone enjoyed discussing what would have happened if the Queen had made an appearance at St Wilfrids. Activities Co-ordinator, Julie Evans said; “It’s a shame the Queen was unable to come to St Wilfrids to celebrate her birthday with us, but that doesn’t mean we won’t keep inviting her to events in the future! Hopefully one day she can visit the home and meet our wonderful residents here.”

Located only two miles from Lancaster in the picturesque village of Halton-on-Lune, St Wilfrids Hall is a beautiful country house that has been sympathetically converted to provide residential and nursing care for up to 36 elderly people. This care home in Lancashire was originally built as a substantial family residence and many period features have been retained following its conversion and extension into a care home of true distinction.
