Snape Maltings dementia therapy at Rendlesham

At Rendlesham Care Centre in Rendlesham, Ipswich, the residents enjoyed weekly sessions over a 10 week period with Snape Maltings.

Snape Maltings have been working with residential settings with people living with and affected by Dementia. This initiative creates bespoke creative music programmes working with care staff, healthcare professionals and those living with the condition. The activity seeks to create new musical experiences designed to empower participants to make choices and make positive contributions to the sessions.

Delivered by a team of experienced musicians – the project works collaboratively with each group to understand and address need to enable every individual to access the provision in a safe and supportive group environment.

Snape Maltings completed their Dementia Therapy Workshops which were a huge success bringing a sense of joy and togetherness for the residents and their families. So many relatives mentioned that for those 2 hours it really “woke” their relatives and they were able to communicate with them in a meaningful way again.

The music sessions were accompanied with exercise and poetry and was inclusive of everyone and all residents took part. The Team have invited Rendlesham to continue to work with them in a monthly forum at Snape Maltings which everyone is delighted with. The Snape Maltings Team have given our activity ladies some training, guidance and materials with which to continue the work with our residents.

Rendlesham Care Centre provides specialist residential, nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment for up to 60 elderly residents.
