Royal Wedding Celebrations at Belmont House

At Belmont House Nursing Home in Sutton we have been gripped with royal wedding fever excitement for the last few weeks and at last, on Saturday 19th May, the big day finally arrived.

Our entire home has been full of enthusiasm in the lead up to Meghan Markle and Prince Harry’s nuptials when they officially tie the knot, so we thought it only fitting that we celebrate with our very own right royal wedding party here at our home.

We started off by watching the royal wedding on the large screen in our cinema room. All 70 participants then relocated to the front garden of our home to carry on the celebrations. Our garden had been decorated with lots of bunting and tables were set with wedding themed memorabilia.

We were very lucky on the day as it was a gloriously warm afternoon. We basked in the sunshine whilst enjoying a delicious royal razzle dazzle buffet lunch and lots of cool refreshments, prepared by our Head Chef and her team, as well as raising a glass of Pimm’s or two to the couple.

Arthur Tanare, Home Manager, said:

“It was lovely to celebrate this momentous occasion with our residents, their loved ones and our team here at our home. The sun was shining and we all really enjoyed coming together to watch the wedding of the Duke and Duchess of Sussex and of course the wedding party we held afterwards.”

“This event sparked lots of conversations and reminisces of their own weddings, past royal weddings and other celebrations they had attended so this day really brought back so many happy memories for everyone.”

Our Hospitality Supervisor, Catherine surprised the crowd with her hidden talent by singing Rhianna’s ‘Shine like a Diamond’. She wowed everyone so much she was cheered and asked to sing an encore. She may have to be a regular fixture now that we know how fabulous she is!

We were also entertained by singer and entertainer Blazena, who sang popular hits from the 50’s and 60’s. She gave an amazing performance and our residents and guests loved the way she interacted with everyone and encouraged us all to sing along and even enjoy a dance or two.

A marvellous celebration was had by all and we all agreed, we had a right royal time.

At Belmont House we provide specialist residential, nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment. We continuously improve the lives of our residents through offering wide ranging services, activities and events, both in and outside of the home involving members of our local community as often as possible.
