Resident gets knitting for breast cancer charity
Keen knitter and resident, Barbara, at Abbeycrest Care Home has been busy knitting squares to make colourful blankets - in preparation to donate to charity.
Chemogiftbags is a charity that supply gift bags, helping breast cancer patients through their treatment.
The blanket will be given to breast cancer patients receiving chemotherapy based at The Royal London Hospital.
Barbara’s daughter, Mary, got involved too by sewing and crocheted the squares together in readiness for handing the blankets over to charity.
“We are honoured to have your blankets for the charity so we can pass onto our breast cancer recipients. Thank you for being part of Chemogiftbags community that are helping others. Keep up the good work for us please and hope you have passed on your knitting skills to many more people.” Lynne Shipton, Founder of Chemogiftbags
Sonia da Silva, Abbeycrest Home Manager added: “Knitting is great for our residents - it helps reduce depression and anxiety, slow the onset of dementia, and distract from pain. This, coupled with donating to charity gives us a better connection to the community which is great for our wellbeing.”
