Rendlesham revs up for charity day

Rendlesham Care Centre invited local vintage vehicle owners to help them raise funds in aid of Dementia Awareness this week, hosting a day of activities in aid of dementia awareness.

A selection of VW campers and cars lined up outside the state of the art home for visitors to admire, before browsing for bargains at a tabletop sale and enjoying a late summer barbecue.

The event was organised by Activities Coordinator Pearl Lloyd Smith and head chef Andrew Wilcox, who along with wife Naomi is a committee member of Volkswagen Owners Club ‘The Suffolk Bugrs.’

The centre accommodates 35 permanent residents with dementia and the event was held to raise valuable funds and awareness of the illness.

Everyone at Rendlesham will be gearing up for more fundraising next Friday (28th September) as the centre will be joining the World’s Biggest Coffee Morning in aid of Macmillan Cancer Support.

Located by Rendlesham Forest on the outskirts of the village, Rendlesham Care Centre is one of Caring Homes’ newest care homes in Suffolk, offering state of the art residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for up to 60 elderly people. The centre comprises three self-contained communities in one location, retaining a real sense of smaller scale homely living with the added benefit of easy adaptation to meet residents’ changing care needs. A highlight of the home is its ‘Forget Me Not’ garden, specially designed to provide a safe and stimulating environment for elderly residents living with a form of dementia.
