Puppy Day at Sanford House

Resident Margaret Leach at Sandford House in Dereham has always loved dogs. Our Administrator Michael Radbourne knows each and every resident building great relationships with everyone within the home. So, when his Border Collie recently had puppies he knew that taking them to visit the home when the time was right was going to delight Margaret.

Puppies; Dumbo, Minnie, Daisy, and Rogue caused quite a stir, with everyone, residents, team members and especially Margaret. Their size and adorable natures made them perfect cuddling companions with some wanting a cuddle with one or two or all of them!

A simple idea and an act of kindness that brought smiles to all our residents faces, who are still talking about the warmth and joy the pups brought with them on their visit. At Sandford House we offer a wide variety of opportunities that benefit resident’s wellbeing, and with pet therapy you only have to see how the residents’ faces light up to know its having a positive effect, they become animated and interact with them even when they do not respond as well with people. Animal interaction is helping our residents and colleagues alike to relax, reducing stress and emphasises the importance and benefits being tactile with a pet can bring.

Three of the puppies have now gone to their forever homes, while Rogue is staying with Michael and will hopefully be a regular visitor as she grows up.

At Sandford House we provide nursing and nursing dementia care for up to 40 elderly people and were rated ‘Good’ in our latest CQC report. We continuously improve the lives of our residents through offering wide ranging activities and events both in and outside of the home, involving members of the local community as often as possible.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
