Pavlova Bake Off Competition at Hulcott

Hulcott care home in Aylesbury hosted its own Bake Off competition recently between Margaret Smart, Home Manager and Pav, our new Head Chef.

The challenge was set when Pav and Margaret were in one of their regular meetings discussing menus for our residents and choice of desserts, when Margaret’s recipe for Pavlova was mentioned and highly praised. Not to be outdone, Pav proclaimed his Pavlova as delicious too and thus the competition was born.

Both were determined to win and they knew they were up against some stiff competition, and we’re not just talking about the egg whites and the meringue!

The competition sparked many conversations with the residents and team, about what they used to bake regularly for their loved ones and also what their favourite desserts are. So when judging time came around, everyone was eagerly looking forward to sampling a piece of each cake and proclaiming the winner.

However, both Pavlovas were equally scrummy and delicious so it was a unanimous decision and the completion resulted in a draw.

The competition was a firm favourite with everyone involved and not only because of the cake that they got to judge and sample. So on this day, it was definitely a case of ‘Have your cake and eat it!’
