Old time musical at Hillside

The residents at Hillside Care Home in Sudbury this week enjoyed a visit from a new entertainer.

Frankie sings old time songs and plays the organ to the residents, serenading the residents with songs such as ‘You are my Sunshine’, ‘Pack up your troubles’, ‘Che Sara’ and other favourites that took the residents back to their younger years.

Music plays an important role in our everyday lives and can be exciting, calming, happy or sad, stirring memories helping us to express feelings and to communicate with others. The power of music, especially singing, to unlock memories and kickstart the grey matter is an increasingly key feature of care. It really lifts the mood of the residents, providing reminiscence of their younger years.

Some of the residents got up and danced with the care team, whilst others reveled dancing in their chairs, singing and clapping along, they even accompanied the music by playing bells and maracas.

The residents at Hillside enjoyed Frankie so much he stayed longer and will definitely be coming back for another session!

Hillside provides residential care for up to 44 elderly people. Located in Sudbury in Suffolk, we also benefit from a close working relationship with our sister home, Mellish House, located next door. Mellish House provides specialist residential support for people living with dementia.

Our two homes provide a continuous care pathway offering elderly residents, their families and loved ones, the peace of mind afforded by knowing that changing care needs can be catered for at a single location.
