Official presentation for Horsell Lodge resident Violet

A special presentation was held at Horsell Lodge care home this week in recognition of the long and significant contribution made to the local community by resident Violet Valentine.

Violet (known to her friends as Pat) was joined by her family and former colleagues at Horsell Lodge, as she was presented with a ‘Citation of Achievement’ certificate by the Mayor and Mayoress of Woking, in recognition of dedicated services
to charity work supporting Woking Hospice.

Violet, 95, only began her volunteer work following her retirement from an equally busy working life. She worked for a number of years as a Civil Servant at the Treasury, Chequers and for Margaret Thatcher at No. 10 Downing Street. At the age of 65 she retired from this post before working at the Woking Conservative Club for two years, where she is an Honoured Member to this day.

At the age of 67, Violet then devoted 26 years to volunteering at the Woking Hospice. She worked tirelessly in both the West Byfleet and Woking Hospice Charity Shops to the age of 93. Violet, a popular resident at Horsell Lodge, has always been a respected member of the Woking community and highly regarded by many local public figures.

Violet was nominated for this special award by Horsell Lodge Manager Michael Larmour MBE, who told us:

‘It is an important part of the Caring Homes philosophy that we understand who our residents are and the lives they have led. Violet has made an enormous contribution to the local community and it is only right that this be recognised.

I would like to thank Cllr and Mrs Smith for joining us today and making it such a special occasion.’

Horsell Lodge is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group, which was founded in 1994 by mother and son team, Helena and Paul Jeffery. Located in the peaceful village of Horsell, the grand Victorian and Edwardian property provides residential care for up to 40 elderly ladies and gentlemen.
