Mini Donkeys spread Christmas Cheer

Residents of Ivy Court Care Home in Norwich were visited by a group of miniature donkeys who popped by to spread some Christmas cheer.

During the visit the donkeys met residents in the home’s communal areas, posed for photos and gave residents the opportunity for a cuddle. For those residents that were not able to get out of bed the donkeys paid them a visit instead. Staff really noticed and appreciated the lift in mood that the donkeys provided to everyone in the home. It was clear from all the smiles and laughter that they definitely spread some Christmas cheer.

Miniature Donkeys for Wellbeing, or Minidonks for short, is run by local resident Sarah McPherson and her team of volunteers. They are taken to a range of organisations with the aim of improving wellbeing and spreading joy. Sarah, who has worked with family carers professionally, as well as having been a carer for two parents with dementia, knows first-hand how stress can be relieved by spending times with animals.

At Ivy Court we provide specialist residential, nursing and dementia care in a purpose built environment. We continuously improve the lives of our residents through offering wide ranging services, activities and events, both in and outside of the home involving members of our local community as often as possible.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
