Mill House and their four legged friends

Mill House care home in Chipping Campden recently invited everyone to bring their dogs in to the home and we were so pleased when lots of furry four legged friends came in with tails wagging to pay us a visit.

Most of our residents had pets in the past and we know they miss them very much. We have two therapeutic dogs visit us on a weekly basis. Tara who is a black Labrador and Harry who is a crossbreed. Unfortunately they couldn’t come this time but we know they will be back soon.

One of our resident’s sister Pat brought her little Jack Russel cross called Peppa who was very funny and friendly and she showed us a few tricks she had taught her.

Jo – Maureen’s friend, brought a Golden Retriever called Millie. Annie the receptionist came with Honey, a tri colour Collie and Kim the Home Manager brought Ruby – a Cavalier King Charles.

It was an amazing afternoon with so many dogs around that everyone could touch, stroke, give them a treat or just watch.

Some of our residents took the dogs to the garden for a short walk that was an incredible experience for them and brought some back very many memories.

We know that animals and especially dogs are very therapeutic for elderly people and simple interactions such as stroking is extremely beneficial and is the ideal way for residents who may be less mobile to interact with animals and benefit from a new and unique experience.

We are definitely going to repeat this again.
