Marchglen resident takes a trip to Tenerife

Marek, Deputy and Charge Nurse of award winning Aberfoyle unit at Marchglen Care Home in Alloa, and Scott, Marchglen’s Occupational Therapist, recently took resident Duncan to Tenerife on holiday for 5 days.

This holiday was at the request of Duncan’s social worker who felt that he would benefit from some time on holiday.  We had a small budget but we made it work to give Duncan a memorable time.

Keeping active helps improve ability to do daily tasks, relax, control weight, and encourage individuals to make new friends. Although it can be hard for someone who is ill or disabled to keep active, there are many different options and we made sure that we did just this.

The trip provided Duncan with something to look forward to, a chance for adventure, and acquire memories of happy times.

Duncan had a great time visiting the attractions in Tenerife, with days on the seafront soaking up the sun and dipping toes in the sea. The five days spent in Tenerife were packed full with trips and entertainment. He wanted to see everything on the island so we tried not to disappoint. We explored the whole island by car and spent some time at Mount Teide, where we marveled at the volcanoes size, it is the tenth highest in the world and is still active so we stayed on our toes.

Duncan also got out to see some bands, visited one of the many vineyards in Tenerife and had a great time with the animals in Monkey Land which gave him a chance to feed the monkeys and Iguanas.

We were also treated very well by the hotel staff with both the airports and Easy Jet doing a very good job of looking after us in Edinburgh and Tenerife South airport. The disabled service they offered for Duncan who used a wheel chair on this trip was excellent.
