Magna Care Centre resident pens prize-winning poem

Magna Care Centre resident Andrea Woods was the toast of the home recently as she was announced as the winner of a regional competition. The competition was run by New Milton based ‘Creature Teachers’ to find the best picture, poem or story with the prize being a free visit from the group, worth £70.
Andrea’s poem (shown below) was inspired by Gili and describes the colourful bird on his daily missions around his native land.

To celebrate Andrea’s win, the Dorset home hosted a celebratory morning with refreshments for all of the residents and their guests, who were all thrilled with Andrea’s win. Many of the care staff believe the location of the building, a designated ‘Site of Special Scientific Interest,’ helps to fuel the residents’ creativity. With a wealth of rare flora and fauna surrounding the centre, it would be hard not to be inspired by one of Dorset’s finest natural environments.
The local Creature Teachers group take a host of animals on the road and deliver entertaining and informative sessions getting hands on with, and up close to, a wide variety of exotic animals.

Andrea’s poem:
Kookaburra comes from down under,
Many, many miles away,
His black and white feathers are
Out in all weathers,
He’s laughing away the day.

Kookaburra sits in a gum tree
He’s looking for some food,
He sees a snail and extracts his
Spoil,
The meal is tasty and good.

Kookaburra swoops through the
Out-back,
Very dusty and dry,
He needs a drink, so in a wink
To a billabong he must fly.
