Local MP Visits Heathfield Care Home’s New Dementia Care Facilities

Heathfield MP Gregory Barker today visited new dementia facilities at the award winning Heffle Court Care Home.  As well as being given a tour of the new wing by members of staff, Mr Barker took the time to speak to residents about their everyday lives and activities.

In the UK alone, over 750,000 people are affected by dementia and this figure is set to double by 2030.

Mr Barker, who is also Minister of State for Energy and Climate Change, was given a full tour of Heffle Court’s new wing. The new dementia wing is already providing specialist care in seven en suite rooms.  Each room has been designed to support people living with dementia, assisting orientation and providing a homely and bright environment.  Since the wing’s opening on 9th February, five of the seven new rooms have already been filled.

During his visit Mr Barker had the opportunity to chat with the home’s Activities Coordinator who took him through the range of therapeutic activities offered by Heffle Court.  Before leaving, Mr Barker also visited Heffle Court’s smallholding, Willow Farm, which includes a teashop and beautiful gardens, a favourite place for residents to spend quality time with their family and friends on their visits.

Heffle Court Care Home, located in the beautiful market town of Heathfield in East Sussex provides residential and nursing care for up to 32 elderly people with a form of dementia and is run by the family-owned Caring Homes Group.  Mother and son team

Ronel Van Rensburg, Heffle Court’s Activities Coordinator said:

“Mr Barker was very interested in the range of activities that we offer our residents at Heffle Court, and he especially enjoyed visiting the animals at Willow Farm.
