‘What’s On The Nashville Wind?’ by L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa’s Activity Coordinator

L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa’s Activity Coordinator Dina is a talented country music singer and songwriter and frequently entertains our residents with her musical skills at our care homes in St Peter, Jersey.

In fact, you could say some of them are her biggest fans and they love it when she sings to them! This year, Dina was thrilled to be able to travel to Nashville to record seven songs that she had written. She had previously had five songs recorded there but the vocals on them were not hers, but a session singer so she was very keen to lay down her own vocals.

The residents were very proud of Dina when she told them of her plans and were very excited for her to be able to realise her dream and travel to Nashville, known as a centre of the country music industry and earning it the nickname “Music City, U.S.A.” So with lots of well wishes, Dina set off on her musical trip. We knew we would miss her but this was such an amazing opportunity for Dina to experience and all our residents were thrilled for her. They knew she would be back with lots of tales of her trip and maybe a song or two and she did not disappoint!

Anyone who is familiar with the country music industry, will have heard of The Zac Brown Band. Well they have a recording studio at Southern Ground in Nashville and it was here that Dina recorded her songs for her first album.

Also, whilst she was in Nashville Dina visited The Centennial Park and the war memorial there. Dina commented that she felt a strong connection with the statue and was so inspired she sat next to it to write a song, ‘What’s On The Nashville Wind’.

On Dina’s return she was delighted to perform and sing it to our residents and it has now become such a firm favourite with them, it is often requested during the regular music sessions she holds here at our homes. “You know, the one you wrote in Nashville.”

Dina is only too happy to oblige; as we did say our residents are some of her biggest fans. They are just so proud and pleased for her, as we all are, and we love to hear her stories and for Dina to share her experiences with our residents. After all, we are like just like one big family here at L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa and we love to celebrate success and help enable our residents and our teams to achieve their dreams and aspirations.

What’s On The Nashville Wind?
You look sad. And you look weary
You fought to make us free
But the names that you sit guard upon
Make it difficult for us to see

In fighting for your freedom
Both sides believe they are right
In our infinite wisdom
It’s never a fair fight

The wind is warm in Nashville
But it’s all Greek to me
The Generations represented here
Did they really, did they really make us free

Did Davis Kelly and Muller
Think they would not return
Their names engraved forever
Their families left to mourn

What do the trees whisper
as they rustle in the breeze?
Does the their spirit become the dancer
Respect them on your knees

The wind is warm in Nashville
But it’s all Greek to me
The Generations represented here
Did they really, did they really make us free.
