L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa at Samarès Manor Country Show

At L’Hermitage and Beaumont Villa care homes in St Peter, Jersey, we took a group of residents to a country fair at Samarès Manor, St. Clement located to the East of the Island.

Samarès Manor is a beautiful manor house with medieval origins in the Vingtaine de Samarès and is the traditional home of the Seigneur de Samarès. The Country Fair itself centres on demonstrations of Jersey traditional harvest time activities: horse-drawn apple crushing and pressing; threshing wheat using early twentieth century equipment; bread making in a granite oven.

With much anticipation, we set off on our trip. The Jersey Morris Dancers were dancing as we arrived, with lots of jolly music so we knew we were in for a good day.

There was so much to do and see; fairground rides, food stalls, craft stalls with handbags and jewellery and clothing.

We made our way to the farmyard, where they had been apple pressing in the morning and the threshing machine was started up to bale some hay.

Our residents watched the threshing machine with great interest, especially one of our residents who had been a farmer and worked one himself in days gone by. It was a real experience for him to reminisce about his past work and regale our other residents with his stories.

The farmer recognised one of our team members and asked all our residents if they would like a taste of the freshly pressed apple juice from the morning. They all gladly tasted it and loved the crisp, fresh taste of the apples.

We then took shelter under a huge oak tree and listened to the country music band that was playing, and all had some more of the refreshing juice.

The Botanic Gardens at Samarès Manor are beautiful and unique. They contain a rich diversity of planting and have been lovingly restored and developed. They include a walled herb garden designed by John Brookes, a Japanese garden, water gardens exotic planting, together with areas which demonstrate seasonality, the use of colour in gardening and different gardening styles so a real feast for the eyes as well as the senses.

All in all, we had a fabulous day out and can’t wait for their next fair. We are very fortunate to be blessed to live in such a beautiful location as Jersey. We endeavour to engage our residents with the local community and attend local events such as these that our residents would have attended in the past with their friends and families. Of course, they are also welcome to come along and join us now too.

These distinguished nursing homes in Jersey are both set in prestigious locations within the grounds of L’Hermitage Gardens Retirement Village in St Peter and offer residents a truly wonderful quality of life.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
