Hillview’s Helen enjoys wonderful weekend in London

Caring Homes’ newly introduced ‘Living’ programme was initially developed as a structured way of exploring residents’ existing hobbies and lost interests, through interactive activities and outings.

Earlier this year, Hillview resident Helen had expressed a desire to explore the sights and sounds of London and take in a West End show, so the activities team at Hillview set about making it happen!

On the 15th November, accompanied by friend and fellow resident Rose Green, Helen boarded the train and set off on the long five hour journey for her dream trip to London.

Whilst they were in London, they stayed at the Strand Palace Hotel which, being located directly across the road from the world-famous Savoy, was perfect for celebrity-spotting.

On the first evening, they ventured out to a chilly Piccadilly Circus to see the spectacular display of Christmas lights. To warm up following the festive walk, the ladies made a quick pit stop for a coffee, before heading back to the hotel for some rest.

Helen had her heart set on visiting Madame Tussauds on Saturday morning and everyone had a fantastic time having their photos taken with the stars, with the Royal Family proving particularly popular. Later that day, the ladies made their way to the Apollo Victoria theatre for the highlight of the weekend as they watched the 3,000th performance of the wacky Wizard of Oz prequel, ‘Wicked’.

Their last day in London was set aside to take in more of the popular tourist attractions including the London Eye, Buckingham Palace and Christmas shopping at Harrods, where they indulged in some new handbags and a bauble each for the Hillview Christmas tree.

The journey home proved somewhat quieter than on the way down, with everyone catching up on some well-earned rest after the busy trip. Following their time away, Helen and Rose have since enjoyed entertaining their families and friends with stories from their memorable weekend away.

Located on the edge of the village of Sauchie in Clackmannanshire and enjoying wonderful views over open countryside, Hillview Court provides specialist residential and nursing care for individuals with dementia, learning disabilities, acquired brain injuries (Including alcohol related illnesses) and older people for up to 48 people throughout seven units.
