Marchglen Burns Day School Visit

On the 25th January Marchglen had the children of Craigbank primary school visit for some Scottish poetry and songs to celebrate Robert Burns day.

The visit had been arranged after their successful Christmas carol concert with teacher, Fiona Allen, and the children found out more about the home’s OOMPH exercise programme.

Scott Bamford, Occupational Therapist at Marchglen, had previously suggested that the children might like to get involved with their OOMPH classes the next time they visit – and this occasion gave them the chance to join in dancing to some Scottish-themed songs.

The children and teachers were provided transport in the Marchglen minibus to make sure they got back for the end of the school day.

The children did a brilliant job of entertaining residents with their poems and songs, and were very enthusiastic when it came to joining in for the OOMPH session.

We covered “We Will Rock You” by the Red Hot Chilli Pipers, “500 Miles” by the Proclaimers, and some Scottish jigs and reels from the Treacherous Orchestra. The children helped to invent the moves for each song and dance, making great use of the home’s pompoms and egg-shaker props – as well as imaginary musical instruments.

Scott Bamford said: “The children were brilliant and gave an extra bit of energy to our session – we could tell that they thoroughly enjoyed joining in with us”.
