Harvest Church service at Kippington

Once a month, the conservatory of Kippington in Sevenoaks is transformed into a Chapel for in-house Anglican Church Services supplied by the Church of St.Mary Kippington.

At Kippington we are lucky to have an electronic organ already in place, which is used for the services and played by the Church’s own organist. In addition, the table is centralised at one end of the room and dressed with a white cloth and a cross and Bible, and space cleared for chairs and wheelchairs so that the bright, airy space feels like a real Chapel. Appropriate pre-service music is played on a CD before the arrival of the Church Staff.

The Harvest Service was held on October 12th this year, and presided over by associate vicar Lynette Leithead, as regular vicar David Kiteley was on a visit to Africa. Several of Kippington’s residents are regular attendees of the service, encouraged by the extra effort made to make the service feel special.

Lynette presented ‘Harvest Boards’ to the attendees, which were made by children that attend the Church of St.Mary Sunday School. The boards depict colourful images appropriate to the harvest season, made by using items such as fallen leaves, pine cones, and fruits and vegetables of the harvest to print on to canvas, which is then overlaid with Harvest appropriate slogans.

Kippington provides residential and nursing care in a beautiful converted Victorian building for up to 51 elderly people.
