Harry comes to Mill House for Pet Therapy

Residents and staff at Mill House were treated to a recent visit by Harry, their visiting dog.

Harry is now a very welcome and regular visitor here being a very sociable, calm and friendly dog, adores company and loves the attention he receives when he visits.

David Andrews, whose father Maurice was a resident at Mill House for many years, has been walking Harry a few days every week. Knowing how much joy and comfort animals can bring to people as well as the proven health and therapeutic benefits, David thought the residents, as well as Harry, would benefit from regular visits to the home and was delighted when we invited them both along.

One of our residents, Pat, a dog lover (pictured here) used to rehome old age Labradors from a rescue centre and keenly looks forward to seeing Harry. She is always ready and waiting with a box full of biscuits which Harry is glad to accept.

At Mill House, we know that pet therapy is a great activity for our residents and we encourage them to get involved when we bring animals in. The interaction with a gentle, friendly pet has significant physical and mental benefits which range from relaxation, lifts spirits, decreases feelings of isolation and alienation and encourages socialisation and motivation.

We look forward to Harry’s next visit.
