Fun filled October at Dormy House

October proved to be a very busy month at Dormy House care home in Sunningdale, Berkshire. Our residents and team enjoyed a variety of activities, which included a visit from Cuddly Cavies, a Rock n Roll party and some flower arranging.

We began the month with a visit from our furry friends at Cuddly Cavies which is always a real treat for the residents when they come. They enjoyed an afternoon of grooming two female Guinea pigs, named Vera and Doris after Vera Lynn and Doris Day. It was an activity that was thoroughly enjoyed by all and we cannot wait to welcome them back again.

During the middle of the month we held a rock n roll party at our Surrey unit. This was an activity that went down extremely well and completely livened up the lounge. We got into the spirit of things by decorating with 1950s themed buntings and decorations including a yellow Cadillac photo prop that was kindly made by our Activities Coordinator’s husband. We also had an entertainer in that afternoon who sang songs from that era and our ladies got into the swing of things by having their nails painted red and a putting on a dash of red lipstick.

There was plenty of singing and dancing and everybody had a lot of fun.

Last week we thought we would brighten up the lounge and decided that we could do some flower arranging. Residents made some beautiful arrangements that have really brought a splash of colour to our lounge area and left it with a wonderful smelling scent.

To finish of the month we had a great afternoon of singing karaoke. Residents had a few requests one of which was Status quo’s Rocking all over the world, which proved a huge hit. It was so popular that they even did air guitar. We completed the session with Queens ‘We will Rock You’ which got everyone doing the famous clap.

At Dormy House care home in Sunningdale we offer the highest standards of residential, nursing and specialist dementia care for elderly residents.

Coronavirus (COVID-19) Update
To Whom it may concern,

RE: A message from the CEO and Clinical Director

At Caring Homes we are following the latest Government advice and stopping visitors to all our homes, except for essential visits by healthcare professionals who will be required to adhere to strict protocols.

We understand that this may be very difficult for families but we are clear in our duty to ensure we protect the health, safety and wellbeing of our Residents and Colleagues as our top priority.

We want you to know that you can contact your loved ones through calls, emails, video and social media and we will support our Residents to view any messages you send over. We are confident that the teams in our homes are doing all they can to ensure that life remains as comfortable and sociable as possible. There will be a full programme of activities delivered by our in-house health and wellbeing teams.

We hope you will understand and support these actions and any further subsequent measures we might need to put in place.

Yours sincerely
