Forth Bay’s Manager is recognised with Lifetime Achievement Award

Alison Graham, manager of our Forth Bay Care Home in Kincardine, Fife, was presented with a Lifetime Achievement Award at the Scottish Care Awards 2013.

Alison, who is a nurse, has dedicated almost 40 years of her life to the profession and was recognised at the prestigious awards ceremony. Alison said:

‘I am absolutely overwhelmed to have been given this award. There have been so many people who have helped me significantly in my role and to hear some of the kind comments from my residents and colleagues at Forth Bay is every bit as rewarding for me as receiving the award itself.’

Qualifying as a nurse in 1976, Alison has spent the past 37 years in the front line of care, in both hospital and care home settings.

The awards were judged by Professor June Andrews from the Dementia Services Development Centre, David Cumming, consultant formerly of the Care Inspectorate and Bill Colvin, former Chair of Scottish Care. The judges received numerous testimonials confirming that Alison is highly regarded by staff, residents and families alike. Fife Council and the Care Inspectorate also acknowledged her commitment to improving the care experience within the home.

One testimonial from a colleague said:

‘She isn’t just a good manager, to classify her as one would be an injustice to her. She’s a nurse, a facilitator, a budget manager and a friend with an open door when required. To put it simply she is the best manager I’ve ever had the pleasure of working beside. In short she is a shining star that sets the example for the care being delivered at Forth Bay.’

Scottish Care Chief Executive Ranald Muir explained:

‘Each year, Scottish Care wishes to recognise people who have made a significant and sustained constribution to the care sector.
The Care Home sector relies heavily on dedicated professionals who are prepared to devote their lives to the care of others. We also know that the quality of care being delivered to residents also reflects the quality of Leadership and Management within each home.
Alison embodies both these attributes as well as many other qualities we aspire to in the delivery of care: she is a dedicated nursing professional and an effective manager and leader.’
