Dormy House staff praised as kind, patient, warm and friendly

Dormy House, in Sunningdale, Berkshire, has been praised in its latest CQC inspection report for having staff who are kind, patient, warm and friendly.

The home was rated as providing a ‘good’ care service across all five criteria which are judged – safe, effective, caring, responsive and well-led – in the inspection which took place in April.

Residents told inspectors they felt safe and well cared for at the home. They felt included in care planning and reviewing their needs. The dignity and privacy of the residents were preserved and staff always found time to laugh and joke with them.

One resident said; “You won’t find better than this. I’m staying here ’til the end of my days.” Another said; “The carers learn to know what you want so you don’t have to tell them. They know.”

Part of the Caring Homes Group, Dormy House is a care home for up to 88 people with varying needs, ranging from minimal support to those who have nursing needs and those living with dementia.

The CQC inspectors found that residents’ right to choice in their care was maintained and the service was highly personalised to each individual.

A relative said; “They get the best care possible. The staff are all good and seem properly trained. The staff are good at anticipating my loved one’s needs.”

Another relative said; “The nursing care is second to none, we feel very reassured that dad is being looked after extremely well indeed.”

The report continues that consistent praise was provided by residents and visitors regarding the nutrition and hydration provided. One person said; “The food is good, the cooks are brilliant.”

Inspectors also examined the presentation of the texture-modified food which is offered to people with swallowing difficulties and is prepared using special moulds to make it more attractive.

Joanne Gullon, Home Manager, said: “At Caring Homes it is our aim to make every home just that – a caring home for our residents. The team here at Dormy House are all incredibly proud of the care which we provide and obviously we are delighted to get a good overall rating in our latest inspection.”

To find out about life at Dormy House the inspection team spoke with 15 residents and six relatives as well as the regional manager, registered home manager and deputy manager, chef and two kitchen assistants, two cleaners, maintenance workers, three nurses, ten care workers, the home administrator, receptionist and activities coordinator. The inspectors also looked at 20 sets of records related to people’s individual care needs.
