A Resident’s poem from Coxhill Manor

Coxhill Manor recently asked our residents to write a poem for an in-house poetry competition and we were thrilled with the amazing poems we received.

The standard of work was fabulous and Margaret Voller, one of our residents, is very proud of the poem she wrote, and rightly so, and was so glad to have won.

Her prize was a lovely bunch of flowers and she is over the moon to see her poem published on our website for all to enjoy.

Margaret’s poem:

Lets’ say I’m an agent –
This place is for sale
– come along and I’ll show you around
(A long leafy drive, well that’s a good start)
This place is quite old, no modern-day shine
But well weathered bricks and chimneys grand
It looks cosy and settled, midst acres of land,
Some rooms are old, but they’re added a few –
To make room for a family of sixty or so,
The dining rooms merit four or five stars
For the well set tables and menu so wide
Offering welcome to guests, and those who reside.
We keep ourselves busy, with quizzes and games
Painting and crafting – and folk entertain
We’ve nurses and carers who tend to our needs.
The gardeners grow roses and pull out the weeds,
Right at the start, I told you a lie
I’m not really an agent nor am I a spy,
Actually I live here; “Coxhill” is my home.
At the far end of Orchard you’ll find my room

Sandra Stock – Head of Activities said:

“We have a club here called ‘Coxhill Residents Club’ which is fantastic for our residents. Recently we had a resident author give a talk about his books plus we talk about events coming up and various other subjects. We find this really stimulating for our residents and they all enjoy taking part.”
