Christmas party time at Ivy Court

We hosted our first ever Christmas party at Ivy Court on Saturday 19th December. With over 60 residents, relatives and staff attending the party there was a great atmosphere. Everyone was in festive spirits and ready to come together for a good old fashioned knees up.

Throughout the week several of the residents across the home got involved in preparations by making paper chains, decorating trees, and going wine shopping. On the morning of the party, the residents from the dementia unit helped us to make fresh sausage rolls of varying shapes and sizes, all of which were gone in a storm!

We had entertainment from the returning Les Trutch, looking as dapper as ever! He sang classics from a mixture of genres as well as some popular Christmas songs. We also had the pleasure of a local church gospel choir joining us for the first time. They gave out carol books and got the residents and their guests to join in with the singing. Afterwards they sang a few numbers from their normal repertoire for us, and of course Jazmin came through and ended up singing a few of the lead solos for them, she particularly seemed to enjoy Oh, Happy Days!

When she wasn’t singing, Jazmin and our wonderful chef, Liam, were preparing a monstrous feast for us – which included a selection of cheeses, cold meats, and homemade vegetable crisps and quiches. Elsewhere in the building we had a quiet room full of board games that the residents could take their grandchildren off to enjoy and Christmas films playing in our cinema. Probably the most popular section of the home on Saturday was our coffee shop, which rather than the usual smell of cappuccinos, was giving off the pleasant scent of mulled wine (and non-alcoholic punch for the children and drivers).
